[NEWS] 2NE1 wins FOURTH Album of the Year at 8th Annual KMA Awards
Girl group 2NE1 claims the 'Best Dance & Electronic Album Award' at the 2011 Korean Music Awards.
On the 23rd at 7PM, in the Seoul Bangi-dong Olympic Park, the 8th Korean Music Awards ("KMAs") were held in the Woori Financial Art Hall. On this day, the awards ceremony was led by Kim Jedong. Rock bands Guckkasten, Oh Jieun and the Wolves, Go Go Star, and rappers Verbal Jint + Swings + San.e, Ra.D, and Jazz guitarist Park Joowon all gave congratulatory performances. 2NE1 was nominated in two categories for Best Dance & Electronic Album and Best Dance & Electronic Song.
Beating out several prominent nominees, including House Rulez, Demi-Cat, Mo Imbyul, Kafka, Casker, etc 2NE1 was presented the Best Dance & Electronic Album Award for To Anyone, despite not appearing for the ceremony.
The KMAs are a set of awards given to reflect the interest of the public towards the music industry. As a result, several music experts, including music critics, music reporters, radio PDs specializing in music, academia, civic groups, etc. participate on the selection committee for these awards, with the focus on the music. The awards ceremony was created with the intent to treat pop musicians as artists, not as entertainers; consequently, this award focuses more on their achievements instead of their sales. For this reason, the KMAs are considered one of the more prestigious music award ceremonies in Korea.
For those keeping track, this award marks 2NE1's FOURTH album of the year award for To Anyone. They also won Album of the Year at the Mnet MAMAs, Melon Awards, as well as on Dorisak.
As notied above, 2NE1 was up against an impressive line-up of artists. The only other "idol" groups to win awards were miss A [who won “Best Dance & Electronic Song” for “Bad Girl Good Girl”], labelmate Taeyang [who won “Netizen-picked Best Male Singer“], and f(x) [who won the “Netizen-picked Best Group”].
Congratulations again to 2NE1 for this accomplishment.
